Project description

With the objective to increase the stability of electric supply for Ventspils city, LEC carried out works in 330 kV substation Ventspils in several stages. From 2012 to 2014 the substation Ventspils itself was built, and in 2016 to 2017 the reconstruction of the 110 kV substation is carried out. LEC was responsible for construction design and coordination of all the construction works, partial delivery of the electrical equipment, installation and adjustment of all the electrical equipment.
Before the commencement of works on the technical design, soil tests were carried out on the territory of the distribution area. After compilation of the geological results it was concluded that the substation site foundations have to be built on driven piles, providing 15 piles under each portal foundation 14 meters deep. Portal constructions are manufactured from S355 grade steel, which allowed to slightly reduce the weight of the portals, but significantly increase their strength. All the metal constructions are hot-dip galvanized, which maximizes their durability.
During the project, strict measures were taken to prevent and preclude any LEC activity that could have any adverse effects on the environment. The client gave positive feedback on the contribution of the company, noting that "the design and construction works were carried out according to the schedule, and in good quality; the object was successfully put into operation. LEC is a competent and responsible company, engaging and proposing solutions to various unforeseen problems in the course of works."
In the competition of Latvian Electricity and Energy Association 2014 the project Substation No. 160 Ventspils 330 kV switchgear construction won the first place in the category New constructions over 1 million euro.
